Alabama Business License Renewals Are Due Monday

Alabama state and county business privilege license renewals are due Monday, Nov. 2, 2026, after the usual Oct. 31 deadline landed on a Saturday.

The Alabama Department of Revenue notice says renewals postmarked by Nov. 2 are timely even if the licensing office receives them later. Delinquent penalties should not be imposed until Tuesday, Nov. 3.

That distinction matters for owners using the mail. The controlling date is the postmark, not the day the envelope reaches the state or county office.

Alabama business license renewal timeline

Date What it means
Saturday, Oct. 31 The ordinary annual due date falls on a weekend
Monday, Nov. 2 Extended deadline for a timely renewal or postmark
Tuesday, Nov. 3 Department says delinquent penalties may begin

The extension changes the calendar, not the underlying renewal requirement. A business should use the license type, location and issuing office that apply to its operation rather than assuming one filing covers every activity or jurisdiction.

What to verify before filing

Owners should compare the renewal notice with the prior license and confirm the legal business name, physical location, mailing address and activity classification. If a business moved, changed ownership or added a line of work, the renewal may require more than repeating last year’s information.

A mailed filing should be taken to a carrier early enough to receive a legible Nov. 2 postmark. Retain a copy of the form, payment record and mailing evidence. An online or in-person filer should save the confirmation page or receipt.

The revenue notice does not say that every local office will have identical hours or payment methods Monday. A business relying on an in-person filing should check its county or municipal office before traveling.

Readers tracking state filing dates can follow The Daily Quill’s Business and Money desk. The site’s Community and Public Services coverage also collects government-service changes and public deadlines.

Where Alabama businesses can ask questions

The notice directs questions to the Alabama Department of Revenue’s Severance and License Tax Section. The published telephone number is 334-353-7827, option 5, and the listed email address is license.account@revenue.alabama.gov.

Those contacts can explain the department’s notice, but a filer with a city- or county-specific question may also need the local licensing office. The Daily Quill cannot determine which licenses a particular business needs and this report is not legal or tax advice.

The practical deadline is Monday, Nov. 2. Businesses that have not renewed should verify their filing route now, preserve proof of timely submission and contact the responsible office before the Nov. 3 penalty date.
