Residents can still submit written comments on preliminary Louisiana road priorities for nine northeastern parishes after the District 05 hearing held Tuesday, Oct. 27, in Monroe.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development notice says written statements may be mailed if they are postmarked within 45 calendar days after the hearing. Counting forward from Oct. 27 places that postmark date on Friday, Dec. 11, 2026. DOTD also links to an online Highway Priority Program comment route.

The hearing reviewed the preliminary fiscal year 2027-2028 Highway Priority Program. A project appearing in that preliminary program is not the same as a final construction award, signed contract or guaranteed start date.

What a useful comment can identify

DOTD invited residents, elected officials and other interested parties to discuss how proposed projects affect the region. A useful written statement can identify the route and location, describe a recurring access or safety issue, and attach dates, photographs or other records that help the committee understand the concern.

General frustration without a location is harder to connect to a project. The official notice directs mailed statements to the Joint Transportation, Highways, and Public Works Committee, care of Louisiana DOTD Section 45, P.O. Box 94245, Baton Rouge, LA 70804-9245.

More public comment windows appear in The Daily Quill’s Community and Public Services coverage. Readers following construction impacts can also use the Consumer Guides desk for deadline and verification reports.

Hearing ended, written record remains open

The in-person Monroe hearing has passed, so this is not an event reminder. The remaining opportunity is the written record described in the DOTD announcement. Online comments avoid postal timing, while mailed statements need a timely postmark.

Anyone referencing a specific project should use the preliminary program linked from the DOTD notice and copy the project name or route accurately. Keep a copy of the submission and any supporting document. DOTD, not this article, controls the comment record and later program decisions.

The next calculated date is Dec. 11. Because the notice states a 45-calendar-day window rather than printing that date, a commenter using mail should send the statement early enough to obtain a clear postmark and should recheck DOTD for any correction.
