Alabama deer season 2026 reached a meaningful change Sunday, Oct. 25: Zone B moved from antlered-buck-only archery to either-sex archery. The other four zones follow different calendars, and gun dates also vary by zone and land type.
The safe planning rule is simple. Find the exact hunting parcel on the official zone map before relying on a date. County names alone may not be enough because some zone descriptions follow highways, rivers and partial-county boundaries.

Alabama deer season 2026 zone matrix
The Daily Quill condensed the current Outdoor Alabama deer season schedule into a five-zone planning table:
| Zone | Current archery period | Youth gun dates | Muzzleloader or air rifle dates | First listed gun-stalk date | |—|—|—|—|—| | A | Oct. 15, 2026-Feb. 10, 2027, either sex | Nov. 13-16 | Nov. 16-20 | Nov. 21 | | B | Oct. 15-24 antlered bucks only; Oct. 25-Feb. 10 either sex | Same as Zone A | Same as Zone A | Nov. 21 | | C | Oct. 15, 2026-Feb. 10, 2027, either sex | Same as Zone A | Same as Zone A | Nov. 21 | | D | Oct. 1, 2026-Jan. 15, 2027, either sex; Jan. 16-27 antlered bucks only | Oct. 30-Nov. 2 | Nov. 2-6 | Nov. 7 | | E | Oct. 1, 2026-Jan. 15, 2027, either sex; Jan. 16-27 antlered bucks only | Oct. 30-Nov. 2 | Nov. 2-6 | Nov. 7 |
The first gun-stalk date is not a universal either-sex promise. The official schedule separates privately owned or leased land from open-permit public land and changes antler restrictions during the season. Wildlife Management Area permits can use additional dates and conditions.
The matrix is designed as a first check rather than a complete regulation book. It brings the five statewide zone calendars into one view so a hunter can identify which official section deserves closer review. Any conflict should be resolved in favor of the current Outdoor Alabama rule, map and area permit.
Zone boundaries deserve particular attention near major highways, rivers and wildlife-management tracts because the official descriptions can divide a county or exclude a smaller area from the surrounding zone. Saving a map screenshot is not enough when rules may be revised; hunters should open the current state page and the permit for the exact public area before each trip.
The Oct. 25 Zone B change
Zone B is the only zone with an archery sex restriction that changes on Oct. 25. Its Oct. 15-24 period was limited to antlered bucks. The listed either-sex archery period begins Oct. 25 and continues through Feb. 10.
That date change does not erase bag limits, equipment rules, property permission or special-area restrictions. It also does not determine whether a particular parcel is actually in Zone B. Use Outdoor Alabama’s 2026-27 map and detailed boundary description before hunting near a zone line.
Zones D and E reach the next firearm dates first
The next major dates arrive in Zones D and E. Their statewide special youth gun period is listed for Oct. 30 through Nov. 2, followed by the special muzzleloader and air rifle period Nov. 2-6. Their first listed gun-stalk period begins Nov. 7.
Zones A, B and C follow later. Their special youth gun dates are Nov. 13-16, followed by muzzleloader and air rifle dates Nov. 16-20 and the first listed gun-stalk date Nov. 21.
These are planning anchors, not a substitute for the full regulation. The official page includes separate private-land, leased-land, public-land and dog-hunting periods.
Four checks before entering the field
Complete these checks in order for Alabama deer season 2026:
1. Locate the property on the official deer-zone map and read any detailed boundary note. 2. Confirm whether the property is private, leased, open-permit public land, a WMA or another special area. 3. Match the legal method and sex restriction to that land and date. 4. Carry a valid license or exemption record and a paper or electronic harvest record as required.
Outdoor Alabama’s license information page says recreational licenses expire annually on Aug. 31 and links to the current My Outdoor Alabama purchasing system.
Game Check has two separate timing duties
The official Game Check FAQ distinguishes recording from reporting. A harvested deer must be entered on the hunter’s paper or electronic harvest record before the animal is moved. The harvest must then be reported through Game Check within 48 hours, with the confirmation number recorded.
The Outdoor AL app can combine those steps. Outdoor Alabama says the app can record a harvest without cell service and complete the transaction once service returns, provided the app and profile were established before the hunt.
The best short version is not one opening date. It is a sequence: parcel, zone, land type, method, date, harvest record and Game Check. That sequence is more useful than assuming every Alabama hunter follows the same calendar.
