Country Club Road Work Warning: Nov. 5-20 Delay Risk

Country Club Road work began Thursday on a section of LA 384 in Calcasieu Parish, bringing alternating single-lane closures during daytime travel for about two weeks.

State transportation officials place the work between Big Lake Road and a point 0.3 miles west of Nelson Road. Daily lane restrictions are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Flaggers will direct vehicles through the active work zone. DOTD says delays are expected and advises motorists to use another route when practical during the Country Club Road work.

The Daily Quill built the table from the state notice so drivers can separate the fixed work segment from the parts of the schedule that may change with weather.

What alternating traffic means for a trip

An alternating closure keeps one lane open while traffic from each direction takes turns using it. The wait can vary with crew position, the length of the active segment and the number of vehicles approaching from either side.

DOTD does not publish a guaranteed delay in minutes. A driver with a school, medical, work or airport appointment should leave extra time rather than treating the one open lane as normal travel capacity.

The daily window also matters for route planning. Travel before 8 a.m. or after 5 p.m. may avoid the scheduled lane restriction, but those times do not guarantee a completely clear route. Equipment movement, weather and field conditions can change work-zone operations.

Which details are fixed and which can move

The named limits, planned work and daily closure window come from the Oct. 30 DOTD announcement. The Nov. 20 Country Club Road work completion date is conditional.

Milling removes part of the existing pavement surface. The asphalt overlay places a new surface over the prepared road. Because both activities depend on field and weather conditions, a rain delay can change where crews are positioned or how long the operation remains active.

The notice does not announce a complete road closure. It also does not identify a posted detour. Drivers who choose another route should use Louisiana 511 to confirm that the alternate path does not have a separate incident or restriction.

A practical check before leaving

Drivers can use this sequence during the work period:

  1. Check the time. The planned closure window begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m.
  2. Check Louisiana 511 for a current incident, closure or queue on the corridor and the intended alternate route.
  3. Leave additional time if the trip has a fixed appointment.
  4. Follow the flagger and posted work-zone controls rather than another driver’s movement.
  5. Recheck after severe weather because the end date is not unconditional.

DOTD directs motorists to Louisiana 511 or the Louisiana 511 mobile app for current travel information. Out-of-state callers can also use 1-888-762-3511.

People walking or biking near the work area should also account for crews and equipment. The state specifically asks area residents to use caution whether they are driving, walking or cycling near the active zone.

The next scheduled milestone is Friday, Nov. 20. If work is not complete by then, the useful update will be a revised DOTD completion notice or a change visible through the official traffic service, not an assumed extension.
